a saturday afternoon in silver lake

Yesterday Jacob and I spent all morning playing with images and fonts, adjusting, getting them just right... went out for the afternoon, and came home with these:

coordinates

Jacob; left forearm; coordinates of his father's hometown (Monrovia, Liberia). We were really specific with the font - and it looks just right.

:) I love my handspun tattoo

Me; right wrist; a portrait of my handspun, sketched from one of my favorite photos. I love the details so much, the shading, the uneven bits plied together, the tiny shadow.

juniper merino handspun

Both tattoos were done by Craig Jackman at American Electric Tattoo (a local shop - it's been in the neighborhood even longer than we have). They are both small and detailed - I wanted a good portrait, and we were really specific about the font for Jacob's, and Craig nailed it with each. They were done with a single needle - such pretty serifs and shading and just great work. I'm happy.

oh my gosh, I love them both! the font on Jacob's is really beautiful - and what a great idea for a tattoo.

And yours is perfect! Craig really captured your handspun - and oh how I covet that spot! I've been wanting to get one on my inner arm for a while - it looks fantastic. :)

Your tats look great. I really do enjoy the symbolism of Jacob's. Can't wait to see yours in two weeks! :)

I love both of the tats. . . I have been looking into a tat that would incorporate dad and Jacob hit the nail on the head.

I may need to get the same one!

Great work!

Oooh, the are both magnificent, though I have to admit, I'm REALLY drawn to yours. Really fantastic work. It's nice to have tattoos that didn't come off of some wall of generic designs.
You are making me want to get some more ink. :D

Those are exceptional tattoos, they turned out incredibly! The font of the location of the town is such a great choice, and your yarn ball- that shading, that detail! Awesome.

Very nice! Grantland just told me about your blog - I can't believe I didn't know about it until now...but rest assured you are now in my google reader so I won't miss any more ;). Tell Jacob hello for me.

Both tattoos are awesome. Definitely not your standard butterflies or skull & cross bones.

That looks like Mrs. Eaves, because of the distinct "1" and the very round zero. And the fact that they're lowercase numbers. I love Mrs. Eaves!

Both are great tats, MH!

I read your blog- when I get a break from studies. I was happy to see my country (LIBERIA!!) mentioned. :) Where is Jacob's father from?
